Clawson Named USTFCCA Mideast Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Junior Ellie Clawson has been named the 2017 USTFCCCA Mideast Region Athlete of the Year, it was announced Tuesday. Head coach Bobby Van Allen also earned Mideast Region Women's Coach of the Year. Clawson is the sixth Blue Jay in eight years to be named Athlete of the Year, while Van Allen was honored for the fourth straight season and ninth time in ten seasons as the Women's Coach of the Year.
Clawson is the fourth consecutive USTFCCCA Mideast Region Athlete of the Year for the Blue Jays. The junior led Johns Hopkins to its 10th straight NCAA Mideast Regional Championship with a first-place time of 21:17.8. Clawson has led the Blue Jays this season, posting top-five finishes in five races this season. Clawson finished first in both the Centennial Conference Championships (21:17.8) and the Mideast Regional. She also finished second in the Mustang Stampede, and third in the Pre-National race this season. The Bellevue, WA native has four of the top 10 times for Hopkins this season and set a personal best mark of 20:41 in the highly competitive Paul Short Run.
Johns Hopkins will race for its fifth NCAA National Championships team title Saturday, November 18 at 1 pm at Principia College in Elsha, IL.
