ORLANDO, FL - Junior Mary O'Grady (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage) and the Johns Hopkins women's cross country team placed sixth overall in the Disney Classic on Saturday.

O'Grady checked in with HopkinsSports.com Sunday evening to give Blue Jay fans the view from the inside on their trip to Orlando.

Friday Night Our evening has been very eventful and we've been running later in our schedule than we expected to. We all arrived at BWI and flew on Southwest down to Orlando where we could feel the air because of the high humidity. After picking up two vans and a car at the rental place, we drove to our rental houses to find they are wonderful! Each house has a pool and a nice kitchen and the girls house even has a game room with a pool table! We then headed out to run the course, but it started down-pouring! Soaked we returned to the houses after our shake out run to shower and head out to the Olive Garden for dinner. Unfortunately, it was already very late and then we had to wait 30 min for a table, and of course eating the never-ending-pasta bowl could take well, all night. We stopped by a small super market to pick up things for breakfast, had our quick pep talk and now it's off to bed since we have to leave at 6:15 tomorrow morning to get to the course. The guys race first at 7:45 and then the girls at around 8:30. But I must get my sleep for the race tomorrow!

Sunday

We got up early on Saturday morning to leave for the race at 6:15. The men's race started at 7:45 and the women's race started a little late, just after 8:30. The course narrowed quickly after the start causing hundreds of girls to be 'boxed' in. Fortunately we were able to make our way through the crowds and get back on track, but it wasn't easy.

The girls celebrated a good race by doing cartwheels on the grass and even synchronized cartwheels with all 7 girls! We went home to clean up and grab a quick lunch before several of the guys left for Typhoon Lagoon, a water park. The rest of us went to Disney World's Magical Kingdom! (Since Disney sponsors the race we get a discount on tickets to any of the Disney parks.) So we (those who went to the Magical Kingdom) spent the day among characters going on all the classic rides. It was a third or fourth time for some, but a first for myself and others. We stayed for the parade and fireworks and then with legs beat from racing and walking around all day, we headed home.

Sunday morning the girls went out for their long runs and then hit the books to make up for lost time the day before. Some studied by the pool, others lounged around different parts of the house, everyone quiet and peaceful, enjoying the Florida sun and yesterday's accomplishments.
