Furlong Leads Fourth-Ranked Hopkins to Third Straight Conference Championship

ELKRIDGE, MD - The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's cross country team placed three runners in the top four to capture its third straight Centennial Conference championship on Saturday at Patapsco Valley State Park in Elkridge, MD.

Junior Cecilia Furlong secured the individual title with a time of 21:29, 19 seconds ahead of Dickinson's Catherine Campbell. Senior Christina Valerio crossed the finish line third with a time of 21:59, with freshman Lara Shegoski was just one second behind to take fourth place. Dickinson's Kim Powell rounded out the top five at 22:05. 

Furlong, Valerio and Shegoski will be First Team All-Centennial selections for their top seven finishes. 

Hopkins finished with 28 points as its first five runners to cross the finish line were all among the top 12 finishers. Dickinson took second place with 63 points, while Haverford placed third with 104 points. Swarthmore (107) and Gettysburg (129) completed the top five. 

Sophomore Liz Provost was the fourth JHU runner to finish, placing eighth with a time of 22:28. Senior Megan Brower finished 12th and clocked in at 22:38. 

The Blue Jays return to action on November 13 at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Slippery Rock, PA.
