Hopkins Places 13th at Rowan Border Battle

GLASSBORO, NJ - The top-ranked Johns Hopkins women's cross country team closed out the regular season portion of its 2015 schedule with a 13th-place finish in a field of 24 teams at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle. Hopkins totaled 405 points with each of its five scoring runners placing in the top 102; there were 229 individuals competing.

Johns Hopkins head coach Bobby Van Allen strategically pieces together his schedule and today's competition was aimed at preparing a portion of the team for the upcoming championship season while resting others.

Junior Veronia Boswell led the way for Johns Hopkins as she placed 60th overall with a time of 22:44.43.  Boswell maintained a strong pace throughout and was especially agressive in the second half of the race as she steadily moved forward to earn her placing.

Two other juniors - Maggie Gill and Shannon Martello - placed 84th and 86th, respectively as they finished within two seconds of each other.  Gill crossed in 23:18.37, while Martello was just behind at 23:20.30.

Closing out the scoring runners for the Blue Jays were sophomore Ellie Burton (92nd • 23:27.25) and freshman Julia Chang (102nd • 23:33.19).

RPI won the team title with 85 points, while Dickinson (108 points), Rochester (110), Haverford (130) and Cortland St. (147) rounded out the top five.

Johns Hopkins will now have two weeks to prepare for the 2015 Centennial Conference Championships.  The Blue Jays have won the last seven Centennial titles and will host the championship on Saturday, October 31.
