Paulsen and Patel Lead Blue Jays To Sixth At Disney Classic Oct. 11, 2008

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team finished sixth overall in a field of 44 teams in the 13th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. Junior Laura Paulsen led the pack to finish ninth in 18:01.40. The Blue Jays competed against teams representing each of the four Divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA. Junior Mira Patel finished the course in 18:16.30 to claim 12th place and freshman Cecilia Furlong ran an 18:45.90 to take 29th place. Sophomore Christina Valerio crossed the finish line in 19:24.00 and freshman Kat Baselice placed 70th with a time of 19:26.90. Junior Mary O'Grady placed 80th in a time of 19:38.10, while senior Rachel Hogen ran the 5k in 19:52.80 to place 88th in a field of 353 runners. The University of Alabama-Birmingham won the Disney Classic with the top score of 82 points. Windsor (ON) followed in second with 107. South Florida earned 110 points and Tampa finished with 164 to claim third and fourth place, respectively. Hopkins finished sixth (170), just one point behind Houston in fifth place with 169 points. The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, October 18th, when they travel to Gettysburg for the Gettysburg Invitational. Races will start at 10 a.m.
