Fifth-Ranked Hopkins Captures Second at Disney Classic

ORLANDO, FL - The fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's cross country team placed three runners in the top ten to take second place at the Disney Classic on Saturday morning in Orlando, Fl. The Blue Jays totaled 81 team points, finishing behind only Division I South Carolina (67) in a field of 25 teams. Coastal Carolina (83), Florida Atlantic (128) and Houston (163) rounded out the top five.

The Blue Jays were paced by junior Cecilia Furlong, who finished third overall with a blistering time of 17:53.40. Freshman Lara Shegoski also made her way into the top five, placing fifth with a time of 18:07.70. Senior Megan Brower took 10th at 18:18.30.

Hopkins captured second place with strong finishes from its fourth-seventh runners. Sophomore Liz Provost was the fourth Blue Jay to cross the finish line at 18:51.40, good for 30th place. Freshman Shayna Rose secured 36th place with a time of 19:01.80, with senior Christina Valerio close behind in 37th place at 19:03.60. Senior Elizabeth Laseter rounded out the Blue Jays' top seven, finishing in 45th with a time of 19:11.30.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, October 16 at the Gettysburg Invitational at 11 am.
