CARLISLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team finished first in the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational. Junior Laura Paulsen finished first in the 6k race, defeating the champion of last year's meet from Messiah, Jennifer Kooser.

Paulsen and Kooser led the pack through the majority of the race, sticking together through the first 5k. Senior Rachel Hogen, senior Emma Hiza and sophomore Christina Valerio formed a pack in the 6k race, remaining near the top ten for most of the race.

Hiza finished ninth with a time of 23:37.48, while Valerio came in 11th at 23:45.81. Hogen finished in 23:48.05 in 13th place.

In the 4k, junior Mira Patel and freshman Cecilia Furlong led the race along with Neely Spence and Mary Dell, both of Shippensburg. The four formed the leading pack for the length of the race.

Patel finished in third place with a time of 14:37.20, while Furlong captured fourth place in a time of 14:38.59.

The Blue Jays finished with a combined score of 54 points from the 4k and 6k races, earning first place overall.

The Blue Jays travel to the William & Mary Invitational on September 27.
