Cole Named ECAC South Coach of the Year
DANBURY, CT – Head volleyball coach Tim Cole was named the 2016 ECAC Division III South Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. The Blue Jays found success in 2016, earning the program’s fourth Centennial Conference title and first NCAA Tournament victory.
Cole guided Johns Hopkins to a 20-9 record in 2016, the team’s first 20-win season since 2012. The Blue Jays went undefeated in the Centennial Conference and won their fourth Centennial Conference Championships title. Cole was named the 2016 Centennial Conference Coach of the Year as he helped JHU to its first 10-0 conference record since 2011. Hopkins was also honored with the Centennial Player and Rookie of the Year award winners.
With the Centennial Conference title, the Blue Jays earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Cole helped Johns Hopkins avenge a regular season loss to Christopher Newport in the NCAA Tournament First Round, guiding the team to its first win in the NCAA Tournament.
Junior Elizabeth Wuerstle was also honored as a member of the ECAC South Women’s Volleyball All-Star First Team. Wuerstle was named the Centennial Conference player of the year for her junior campaign. The Kennett Square, PA, native led the conference with a .296 hitting percentage, recording 334 kills and 53 service aces on the season.
