Johns Hopkins Draws Kean (NJ) in NCAA Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins volleyball team will play Kean (NJ) in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament it was announced today. The match between the third-seeded Blue Jays and sixth-seeded Cougars will take place at Stevenson University (MD) at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 10 and will be the third of four first-round matches at Stevenson that day.
The winner of the Johns Hopkins-Kean match will play the winner of the first-round match between second-seeded Stevenson and seventh-seeded Hunter (8 pm on November 10) at 6 pm on Saturday, November 11. Top-seeded Carnegie Mellon will play Eastern and fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon will play fifth-seeded Swarthmore in the two first round matches in the other half of regional bracket.
Johns Hopkins (24-3) is making its second consecutive and fifth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Jays advanced to the second round of the tournament last season after knocking off Christopher Newport, 3-1, in the first round.
The Blue Jays earned the Centennial Conference’s automatic bid to the tournament this season after defeating Swarthmore, 3-1, in the league championship match on Sunday. The Centennial title is also the fifth in school history with all five titles coming since 2011.
Kean (28-10) earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference title with a 3-2 victory against Stockton University in the NJAC title match. The title is the first for the Cougars since 2001 and Kean is making its fourth appearance in the tournament and first since 2001.
Johns Hopkins and Kean have met just once with the Cougars winning 2-0 in 1995. The teams did not share any common opponents during the 2017 season.
