BALTIMORE, MD - First Things First

Heading into the home stretch, the Johns Hopkins volleyball team has two matches remaining in the 2008 regular season.

Beating Bryn Mawr on the road, the Blue Jays jumped into a three-way tie for first place in the Centennial Conference Standings, with Haverford and Gettysburg, and clinched a spot in the tournament.

Week In Review Leading the Blue Jays over Washington on Wednesday was sophomore Brittany Zimmer (Melville, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) with her seven kills, two service aces and seven digs. Freshman Melissa Cole (Walnut, CA/Walnut) followed, adding five kills, three assists, two digs and two blocks. Senior Adrienne Young hit .500 against the Shorewomen with five kills in 10 attempts and committing zero errors.

In a 3-0 win over the Bryn Mawr Owls on Saturday, junior Rhea Alexander (Roseville, CA/Roseville) had 12 digs, while seniors Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) and Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/ St. Mary's Hall) each had 10 digs. Lewis recorded her third triple-double in 2008 with 10 digs, 10 kills and 21 assists. Sophomore Katie Kings (Pensacola, FL/Catholic) notched her first kill of the season against the Shorewomen in her first set of the year. It was the second kill of her career.

Senior Sarah Ratzenberger (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) recorded her first service ace of the season and added two digs against Washington College. It was just the second of her career.

Senior Abby Wakefield (Portland, ME/Phillips Exeter Academy) registered two kills against Washington, bringing her season total to 15. She also has six blocks on the year.

For The Season

Hopkins claimed its third straight 3-0 victory of the season over Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Five of the Blue Jays' seven Centennial Conference wins were captured in only three sets. The team has 10-three-set wins on the season.

Senior Amanda Lewis has 750 assists so far this season. Lewis is just 66 assists from the Centennial Conference career assists record. She also has 11 double-doubles in 2008 and a trio of triple-doubles.

The Blue Jays have hit .300 in six matches this season and remain the top hitting team in the conference. The Blue Jays also own five of the top 15 hitters in the Centennial in Alex Zenoff, Adrienne Young, Amanda Lewis, Sarah Feicht and Allison Cappelaere.

In The Week Ahead

Hopkins continues its journey to the Centennial Conference Tournament, clinching a spot over the weekend with the victory over Bryn Mawr.

The Blue Jays travel to McDaniel on Wednesday to take on the 11-15 Green Terror. The match will begin at 7 p.m. Hopkin sis 14-15 all-time against McDaniel.

Celebrating Senior Day while competing in its last home regular season match, the Blue Jays host Ursinus at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Hopkins will honor the accomplishments of seniors Adrienne Young, Amanda Lewis, Kim Jackanich, Sarah Ratzenberger, Abby Wakefield and Fiorella Castillo.
