BALTIMORE, MD - Blue Jays On Top The Johns Hopkins volleyball team won its third Centennial Conference game on the road last Wednesday and is undefeated in conference play away from home this season. Head coach Greg Giovanazzi led the Blue Jays to a 3-1victory over Gettysburg with a new offense that left the Bullets struggling for a solution. Leading the Blue Jays was senior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall), who recorded her second consecutive triple-double with 11 kills, 37 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Sarah Feicht (Austin, TX/James Bowie) led Hopkins with 12 kills, while junior Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) had 10 kills and 25 digs. Junior Rhea Alexander (Roseville, CA/Roseville) had 22 digs and junior Kristen Kozielski (Columbia, MD/Atholton) added 13 assists. Double-Digits Three Blue Jays posted more than 10 kills in the match at Gettysburg. Senior Amanda Lewis hit .320 for 11 kills. Junior Allison Cappelaere had 10 and freshman Sarah Feicht had 12 kills in the victory. A different offensive approach by Hopkins allowed both JHU setters to partake in the action. Junior Kristen Kozielski recorded a season-high 13 assists, while Lewis finished with 27 assists. Four returned 10 or more digs in the win over Gettysburg. Junior Rhea Alexander registered a career-high 22 digs and Cappelaere posted 25. Lewis had 14 digs and senior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius Prep) added 15 digs as JHU defeated Gettysburg on its home court. Seeing Double Junior Rhea Alexander served up two service aces against the Bullets. Junior Adrienne Young (Oakton, VA/Thomas Jefferson) recorded two solo-blocks in the win. Kim Jackanich and Allison Cappelaere each had two assists for the Blue Jays. Hopkins won two consecutive sets in the match (third and fourth) to give the Blue Jays their third Centennial Conference victory in 2008. The Blue Jay offense used two setters on the court in the match against the Bullets, a first in 2008. Help! Senior Amanda Lewis continues her climb to the top of the Centennial Conference record book. After 37 assists last Wednesday, Lewis needs just 167 more assists to capture the conference career record. Haverford's Emily Hinchcliff (2004-07) set the standard in 2007 with 4,707 assists as part of a Fords squad that captured the 2007 Centennial Conference Championship. In The Week Ahead The Blue Jays will play host to the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. The Diplomats are the No. 4 squad in the Centennial Conference behind Hopkins and Haverford, which sit tied in second place. Franklin & Marshall boast eight returning letter-winners and is 5-12 (3-1 CC) on the season. The Diplomats fought through a tough non-conference schedule in September to begin it's Centennial Conference schedule with defeats of Washington, Ursinus and McDaniel. The Blue Jays will also host the Swarthmore Garnet on Saturday, October 18 at 1 p.m. The Garnet are 5-15 on the season and 1-4 in Centennial Conference play. Come out and support your Johns Hopkins Blue Jays as they vie to maintain their second place standing in the Centennial Conference rankings on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Goldfarb Gymnasium.
