BALTIMORE, MD - Junior middle blocker Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) of the Johns Hopkins volleyball team sat down with HopkinsSports.com after the Blue Jays' big win over Gettysburg, 3-1, on the road on Wednesday.

Zenoff leads the team in kills with 173 on the season and is second in the Centennial Conference in hitting percentage at .287.

HopkinsSports.com: Why did you choose Johns Hopkins?

Alex Zenoff: "I wanted a school with a strong international relations program that had a real campus and access to a city."

HS.com: What is you major and what would you like to do after you earn your degree?

AZ: "I am majoring in international relations with a concentration in East Asian Studies and I would really like to join the Peace Corps after I graduate from JHU."

HS.com: What is your favorite thing about being a Blue Jay?

AZ: "I love the way that the teams supports one another. It's always fun to have other athletes as fans at our matches. We're lucky to have so many come out and cheer us on!"

HS.com: What is it like to have a new coach?

AZ: "We are so lucky to have coach Giovanazzi. I respect him so much as a coach and as a person. He is one of the most insightful and grounded people I have ever met."

HS.com: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

AZ: "Some of my teammates and I have sort of an energy gel before matches. It is a pretty silly ritual since it targets distance runners and cyclists, but it gets us pumped up!"

HS.com: What advice would you give to a prospective student-athlete?

AZ: "My advice would be to go for it! Originally, I did not want to play sports in college, but I am so glad that I did. Being on a team provides great opportunities to meet new people and push your own boundaries."

HS.com: What is your favorite class?

AZ: "My favorite subject is Chinese, which meets five days a week. I like how different it is from English. It makes it more fun and gives me a greater sense of accomplishment when I learn something new."

HS.com: What is your favorite food?

AZ: " I love pasta! Last season, I ate ¾ of a pound of pasta right before a match. It wasn't the smartest thing I had ever done."

HS.com: What do you miss most about California?

AZ: " My friends always make fun of me because I think anything below 50 degrees is absolutely freezing. I miss the weather."
