BRYN MAWR, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team swept past Bryn Mawr and Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon and has now won six straight matches. The Blue Jays improve to 16-11 (6-2 CC) on the year with the two victories.
Hopkins dropped Bryn Mawr in its first match by set scores of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-14. Junior Melissa Cole posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs and added three service aces to pace the Blue Jays. Sophomore Becky Paynter tallied 27 assists, five digs and three service aces, while senior Alica Diehl notched a team-high 16 digs. The Owls fall to 9-11 (3-5 CC) with the loss.
JHU swept Delaware Valley in its second match of the day by set scores of 25-7, 25-20 and 25-19. Cole led the Blue Jays in kills with 11, while senior KC Stingl and sophomore Carolyn Mickelson added eight kills apiece. Cole's 20 kills in the two matches on Saturday gives her 324 kills for the season, placing her 14th in JHU history in single-season kills with three regular season matches remaining.
Diehl again led Hopkins in digs with 12, while freshman Katia Charov tallied 21 assists. Diehl now ranks ninth all-time in Johns Hopkins history in single-season digs wtih 443. Paynter added 11 assists against Delaware Valley and is now 11th all-time in individual single-season assists with 829. Delaware Valley drops to 11-14 on the year.
Hopkins returns to the court on Wednesday, October 27 at McDaniel at 7 pm in Centennial Conference action.
