Donning new uniforms and a new offense, the Johns Hopkins volleyball team took down the Gettysburg Bullets on the road, 3-1. Head coach Greg Giovanazzi and the Blue Jays rise to 15-5 (3-1 CC) on the season and force the Bullets to an 11-10 (4-1 CC) record.
The first set opened with eight tie-scores before either team reached the 10-point mark. Gettysburg raced out of the first timeout to an 18-14 lead. The Blue Jays made a seven-point comeback to tie it at 21. With the score knotted again at 24 from a Brittany Zimmer kill, a Bullet attack attempt sailed out of bounds. Gettysburg called a timeout, but it was not enough as senior Adrienne Young and freshman Sarah Feicht blocked another Bullet attack to capture the set, 26-24.
Gettysburg led the majority of the second stanza with the exception of a 4-0 Hopkins lead to open the set. The score was tied at 18 as each team battled for points in an effort to take the set. After an Alex Zenoff kill, the Blue Jays trailed the Bullets, 24-23. Senior Kim Jackanich served up an error to give Gettysburg the win in the second set, 25-23.
With each team feeling the heat, Hopkins jumped to a 9-5 lead from a 5-5 tie to force the Bullets into a timeout in the third set. A Hopkins attack error ended the Blue Jays' 8-1 run at 13-6. Gettysburg called another timeout as JHU went up 17-10. Junior Allison Cappelaere led the Blue Jays with her jump serve into six straight points to take the set, 25-16.
It was all about the A's in the fourth set as the first eight Hopkins points involved a Blue Jay with a first name that begins with "A."The set began with an

Sarah Feicht kills. After a Gettysburg error, another Feicht kill and an ace by Cappelaere, Gettysburg called a timeout as it fell behind 22-13. After another Feicht kill and a Bullet net violation, the Blue Jays faced game point. The Bullets notched a final kill before senior
Adrienne Young provided the game-ending point with a deep kill to the Gettysburg back line. Hopkins claimed the match with a 25-14 victory in the fourth set.
Leading the Blue Jays was senior Amanda Lewis, who recorded her second consecutive triple-double with 11 kills, 37 assists and 14 digs. Feicht led Hopkins with 12 kills, while Cappelaere had 10 kills and 25 digs. Junior Rhea Alexander had 22 digs and junior Kristen Kozielski added 13 assists.
