YORK, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team split matches for the second straight day on Saturday at the York College Spartan Invitational. Hopkins lost a tight match to Carnegie Mellon, 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 23-15), before downing Rowan, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18). The Blue Jays move to 9-9 on the year.

In its first match on Saturday, Hopkins nearly avenged a 3-0 loss to Carnegie Mellon earlier in the season, but eventually fell to the Tartans in five sets.

JHU swept past Rowan, 3-0, in its final match of the tournament to secure fourth place. Paynter handed out 32 assists to spark the Blue Jay offense, while Cole led the team in kills with 14. Senior KC Stingl added nine kills in the win.

The Blue Jays travel to Carlisle, Pa. on Wednesday, September 29 to face Dickinson in Centennial Conference action at 7 pm.
