GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team went 2-0 during day one of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College on Friday night. Hopkins (6-1) defeated Catholic, 3-0 before downing Messiah, 3-0 in the nightcap.

The Blue Jays captured their first match of the day against the Cardinals by scores of 30-21, 30-16 and 30-25. Hopkins hit .179 for the match while recording 42 kills and 58 digs. Senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) recorded 13 kills and hit .370 while adding on eight digs. Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) just missed a double-double as she dished out 34 assists and had nine digs on the match. Fellow junior Fiorella Castillo (Jamaica, NY/Francis Lewis) led the team in digs with 15 while sophomore Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) continued her strong play with 10 kills.

Against the Falcons, the Blue Jays picked up the win with game scores of 30-22, 30-25 and 30-20. Fijalkowski continued her strong play on the day with 10 kills and four digs while Cappelaere contributed 11 kills and nine digs. Lewis dished out 39 helpers on the night and had three service aces.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Battlefield Classic. The Blue Jays are scheduled to face at Elizabethtown at 10 a.m. and Salisbury at 12 noon.
