BETHLEHEM, PA - Johns Hopkins senior Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District II College Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team on Thursday by the District II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Darling, who was also a First Team selection for basketball, boasts a 3.93 cumulative grade point average as a civil engineering major. She became a four-time All-American in track & field after winning the discus and placing second in the javelin at the 2003 NCAA Division III Women's Track & Field Championships last weekend.

Darling won the discus for the second time in her career with a throw of 158'5" and finished second in the javelin with a mark of 153'9". In addition to winning the discus in 2001, she placed second in the event last year and was sixth as a freshman in 2000. Darling was the National Champion in the javelin in 2000, while placing second a year ago and third in 2001.

To be considered for Verizon Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, must be a starter or significant reserve, and must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I college and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The members of CoSIDA select the Verizon Academic All-District Team and the ten first-team selections represent the district on the national ballot for Verizon Academic All-American honors, which will be announced on Thursday, June 19.
