Johns Hopkins junior Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) placed second in the javelin and the discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Macalester College on Friday and Saturday. Darling, the only JHU participant at the championships, scored 16 points for Hopkins as she bettered the old Macalester Stadium records in both events.

On Friday, Darling took second in the discus as she broke her own school-record with a throw of 157'6". Jenney Luer, a senior from Wisconsin Stout, won the event with a toss of 160'1". Darling was the National Champion in the discus during the 2001 season with a throw of 156'3" and finished sixth as a freshman in 2000 with a mark of 144'5".

Darling was second to Christina Scherwin of Moravian College in the javelin with a throw of 151'11" on Saturday. The mark was her fifth-best of the season, yet still bettered the old Macalester Stadium record. Last season Darling was third in the javelin with a throw of 140'10", while she won the event during the 2000 season with a mark of 146'8".

Darling holds the school-record in both the discus and the javelin and won both events at the Centennial Conference Championships this year as she broke the meet records. This season, she posted seven marks of 150' or better in the discus and five throws above 150' in the javelin.
