Junior Laura Paulsen of the Johns Hopkins women's track & field squad was named Centennial Conference Co-Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her performance in the 5,000 meter run at the Penn Relays last Thursday. Paulsen ran a 16:50.75 to break both the Johns Hopkins and the Centennial Conference record in the 5k.
The former Centennial Conference record was set by Katie Doherty from Ursinus in 2003 at 16:54. Paulsen also broke her own school record in the 5,000 meter from 2007 (17:05.88), placing 10th in the Olympic Development Division of the Penn Relays.
Paulsen and the rest of the Blue Jays will begin competition in the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday, May 1 at Franklin & Marshall.
