Hopkins Finishes Third at the Ursinus Indoor Track Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's indoor track and field team opened its season with a third place showing at the Ursinus Indoor Track Classic. The event was won by Division I Towson who finished with 157 points. Coppin State was second with 110 points and then the Blue Jays were third with 60.5 points. Frostburg State and Virginia State rounded out the top five teams with 55 and 40 points respectively.
Freshman Laura Paulsen (Lutherville, MD/Bryn Mawr) set a new school and freshman record in the 3000 meter run as she finished with a time of 10.17.41. Hopkins had its best showing in the 3000 meters as the Blue Jays took eight of the top nine spots in that event with only Kay Borleis from Towson, who finished second, separating the Blue Jays.
Jessica Reeves (Miami, FL/Gulliver Preparatory) finished second in the pole vault at 2.75m while Megan Wei (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) finished tied for fourth in that event with 2.59m. Amarachi Onyima (Gresham, OR/Gresham) finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.56m.
The Blue Jays will be back in action on January 12th when they travel to New York to take part in the Gotham Cup.
