SHIPPENSBURG, PA - In their final tune up for the  Centennial Conference Championship Track Meet next weekend, several Blue Jay women advanced in the conference rankings to ensure better seeding placements when they competed at Shippensburg’s Paul Kaiser meet on April 28th against mostly Division II schools.

Senior co-captain Stephanie Amalfe was second in the discus throw but is ranked first in the conference in the event.  She threw the discus 38.30 meters (125’8”) and advanced her rankings in all three throwing events when she also recorded her lifetime best javelin throw of 34.30 meters (112’6”) and a then had a solid shot put of 10.84 meters (35’6 ¾”).

Alison Smith, another senior co-captain, had run a blazing 400-meter relay leg at the Penn Relays only two days before but sprinted to a season’s best 12.75 in her 100-meter dash heat.  She ran another 100 meters on the 400-meter relay as she combined with Kelley Hussey, Leah Sibener and Chloe Ryan for their second fast time of the season of 50.23.  Smith ranks second in the conference at 100-meters and third in the 200-meter dash, while the 4 X 100-meter relay is on also ranked first in the conference.

Ashley Murphy grabbed sixth place in the 1500-meter race in 4:47.71 to advance her conference ranking while Maggie Shelton, 2:18.99, and returning from injury in the indoor season, also moved up as the Hopkins women prepare to defend their outdoor team title to go along with their indoor team win.

The Blue Jays will return to action next weekend at the Centennial Conference championships held at Ursinus College beginning on May 4 and running through May 6.
