The Johns Hopkins track and field team competed Saturday, April 9, at the Delaware Invitational, which featured 19 teams including several Division I schools. The Blue Jay women finished in fourth place among the nine Division II and Division III teams, while the men placed sixth out of 10.

Several Blue Jays achieved their personal bests and six freshman records were set during the meet.

The meet began on Friday night, when freshman Angela Kaon competed in the 5000m, her first 5k of her collegiate career. Kaon finished second with a time of 18:39.36, breaking the freshman record set last week by teammate Javi Hartenstine. Hartenstine and Kaon continue to improve rapidly, as they both rank in the top five in the conference for the 5k.

Another freshman record was broken as Hartenstine ran nearly 10 seconds faster than her previous best in the 1500m. Her time of 4:58.74 earned her second place, just one second behind indoor conference champion Karen Mount from Muhlenberg.

Freshman Jessica Reeves opened the field events as she finished third overall and broke the Hopkins freshman record in the women's pole vault. She also finished fourth in the high jump.

In the other jumping events, freshman Chris Cottrell, this week's Johns Hopkins athlete of the meet, broke a freshman record with a jump of 20'5", good for seventh place.

A pair of freshman highlighted the throwing events, breaking the freshman record in the javelin. In the women's javelin, Chantel Priolo threw 92'11" good for seventh place, and John Kealy broke the men's freshman record with a throw of 159'7", good for fifth place.
