TOWSON, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team started its outdoor season with a strong showing at the Towson Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet was comprised of teams from the Division I and III levels.

Sophomore Amarachi Onyima (Gresham, OR/Gresham) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 11.36m, finishing only behind a division I thrower from Delaware. Onyima was joined in the top ten of the shot put by freshman Krystina Laucik (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) who finished sixth with a throw of 10.95m.

Sophomore Rachel Hogen (Tarzana, CA/Harvard-Westlake) finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:54.69. The relay team of Jessica Reeves (Miami, FL/Gulliver Prep), Giselle Joseph (Trinidad West Indies/St. Joseph's Convent), Alison Grant (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Viann Nguyen (Alexandria, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) finished third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.17.

Joseph continued her strong showing on the afternoon with a second place finish in the 100-meter dash. She crossed the line with a time of 13.31.

Hopkins returns to action on March 31st at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, MD.
