Hopkins Competes at Ursinus Invitational Feb. 12, 2003
COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ursinus College Invitational this past weekend and produced several solid results. There was no team scoring at the event.
Senior Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) had another spectacular day to lead the Blue Jays. He won the long jump with a mark of 20'8" and broke his own school indoor record in the 55-meter dash as he placed second with a time of 6.54. Amos then finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.08.
Senior John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham) was just shy of setting a school record in the 1,500-meter run as he placed third with a time of 4:07.69. Mike Wortley set the mark of 4:07.65 during the 2001 season. Also performing well were freshman Shane Olaleye (Fordham Prep), who was 12th in the 800-meter with a season-best time of 2:03.27. Freshman Tai Kobayashi (Rolling Hills, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy) placed sixth in the 55-meter dash with time of 8.45 and was sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5'10".
For the women, freshman Ilolochika Emuh (Highland, CA/Redlands) set a school indoor mark in the 55-meter hurdles as she was third with a time of 9.09. Emuh was also fifth in the 200-meter dash at a 27.95 pace. Junior Aline Bernard (Nashville, TN/Hume Fogg) placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:12.00.
Freshman Joanna Cohen (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) had a solid day as she finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 15'1" and ninth in the 200-meter dash at a 29.07 pace. Senior Jackie Evans (State College, PA/State College) was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 32'8.5".
The Blue Jays return to action Saturday as Hopkins travels to Boston for the St. Valentine Meet at Boston University.
