Hopkins Competes at St. Valentine Invitational
Feb. 11, 2007
BOSTON, MA - The Johns Hopkins women's track and field competed at the St. Valentine Invitational in Boston on Saturday. In a highly competitive meet that featured teams from Division I, II and III competing in the events, Hopkins saw multiple school records fall and several Blue Jays qualify for the NCAA and ECAC Championships.
Freshman Laura Paulsen continued her strong run for the Blue Jays, as she placed 10th in the mile run with a time of 4:57.27. Paulsen's time breaks the school record for the mile, which was set in 1980 by Eleanor Simonsick; it also breaks the freshman school record. Paulsen's time also is a new Centennial Conference record for the indoor mile. Her time qualifies her for the NCAA Championships along with the ECAC Championships.
Giselle Joseph and Paula Osborn finished 64th and 81st in the 200-meter dash in a field of 153. Joseph's time of 26.66 and Osborn's time of 27.04 qualify those runners for the ECAC Championships. Sophomore Jordan Ireton qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.84, she finished 62nd in the event.
The 4x400m relay team of Ireton, Paulsen, Osborn and Rachel Hogen notched a time of 4:11.63, which breaks the school record in that event and qualifies for the ECAC Championships.
Hopkins returns to action next on February 24th and 25th when it competes at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Haverford.
