Amos Leads Hopkins at Widener Invitational Feb. 3, 2003
CHESTER, PA - Senior Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) recorded two second-place finishes and won the 200-meter dash to lead the Johns Hopkins men's and women's track & field teams at the Widener Invitational on Saturday. The was no team scoring at the meet.
Amos set the JHU indoor record and finished second in the long jump with a mark of 21'6.75". He broke his own mark of 21'1.50" set during the 2002 season and tied earlier this year. Amos also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.83 and placed second in the 55-meter dash at a 6.67 pace after posting a 6.68 time in the preliminary heat.
Senior John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham) was Hopkins' top distance runner on the day as he finished third in the 3,000-meter run with a season-best time of 8:59.32. Freshman Nick Sousa (Foxboro, MA) was sixth in the event with a time of 9:28.12.
Also performing well for the men were freshman Tai Kobayashi (Rolling Hills, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy) who was second in the high jump with a mark of 5'10", and freshman Derrick Norgriff (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) who was fourth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 42'8.0".
Freshman Joanna Cohen (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) set a school indoor record in the long jump as she placed second with a mark of 16'3.75". She broke the record of 14'9" set by Tricia Quartey set two years ago. Cohen was also fifth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.88.
Freshman Ilolochika Emuh (Highland, CA/Redlands) recorded two top-five finishes as won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.30 and was fourth in the 200-meter dash at a 29.20 pace. Senior Jackie Evans (State College, PA/State College) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 34'5.75".
The Blue Jays return to action Saturday as Hopkins travels to Collegeville, Pennsylvania for the Ursinus Invitational.
