BALTIMORE, MD - Ten members of the 2009-10 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team have been named Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In addition, Hopkins received the ITA All-Academic Team award. The Blue Jays boasted a team cumulative GPA of 3.50 for the 2009-10 academic year, earning the honor for the fourth straight year. Since 2007, Hopkins players have garnered 34 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2009 and spring 2010). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Earning the honor this year are freshman Andrea Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin), senior Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin), senior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School), sophomore Vanessa Charubhumi (East Elmhurst, NY/Stuyvesant), freshman Louisa Drake (Riverside, CT/Kent School), junior Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach), freshman Yoko Hirase (Plano, TX/Plano West), freshman Nandita Krishnan (Chennai, India/Sishya School), sophomore Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) and freshman Candace Wu (Yorba Linda, CA/Valencia).

Ellen Berlinghof was a four-time selection, while Bhamidipati earned the honor for the third time in her career. Charubhumi, Dwyer and Warren all earned the honor for the second time.
