BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team achieved a program first on Tuesday night, as the Blue Jays were ranked 10th in the final Campbell/ITA Division III National Rankings. It is the highest ranking in the season's final poll in program history, surpassing the 2007 team that finished the season ranked 14th. In addition, several Blue Jays are nationally and regionally ranked in the final poll.

The Blue Jays went 14-4 in 2009 and won a school-record 13 consecutive matches en route to their third straight Centennial Conference title. Hopkins made its third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to eventual national semifinalist Carnegie Mellon. In addition to its national ranking, Hopkins is ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region, also a program best. The Blue Jays return six of their seven starters next season, with just two of the six in their final season of eligibility.

Freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) finished the season ranked 36th in the nation and ninth in the Atlantic South, both program records. She went 18-8 on the season in singles and doubles, earning First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in both to become the second freshman in program history to do so. She and senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) finished the season ranked seventh in the Atlantic South. Matava also earned First Team All-Centennial honors in singles and doubles, bringing her career total to seven all-conference honors. Matava went 13-7 in doubles this season and finished her career as the program's all-time leader in singles wins (72), doubles wins (59) and total wins (131).

Junior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) finished the season ranked 44th in the nation and 11th in the region. She went 14-5 in singles and 14-6 in doubles this season and earned All-Centennial honors in singles. She enters her final season ranked second in career singles wins (53), third in doubles wins (46) and second in total wins (99). Bhamidipati and sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) are ranked 15th in the Atlantic South in doubles. The pair went 11-4 on the season, including a perfect 7-0 in the Centennial Conference. Freshman Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) is ranked 21st in the region after going 18-5 in singles, including an 8-0 mark in the conference. Her 18 wins are tied for fourth most in a single season in program history.
