SWARTHMORE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team got two wins in three singles matches and won its only doubles match on the first day of the 2005 Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Championships. Action at Swarthmore College continues on Saturday morning.

Sixth-seeded Tanya Gulnik and seventh-seeded Michelle Liang both picked up straight set wins in singles action in the first round. Gulnik defeated Allyson Scherb of Haverford (6-0, 6-3), while Liang cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bryn Mawr's Leah Blankenship.

Hopkins suffered one casualty in singles action as eighth-seeded Sara Marion Siebert held off the Blue Jays' Becky Busch, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Busch teammed with Liang in doubles action to advance to the quarterfinals as they knocked of Washington College's Allison Daciek and Beth Foster 8-4 in the second round after receiving a first round bye.
