LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins freshman Anna Kankanala has been named the Centennial Conference women's tennis player of the week. She went a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles to help Hopkins to a 3-0 week in conference play as the top-ranked Blue Jays improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the CC. Kankanala is the second Blue Jay this season to earn the honor, joining classmate Amanda Austi.
Kankanala did not lose a set in singles, playing at first, second and third in wins over Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson and Ursinus. She and classmate Amanda Soo Ping Chow won 8-5 at second doubles and Kankanala then won 6-3, 7-6 (5) at first singles in the win over the Diplomats. She and Soo Ping Chow lost just one game in their win at third doubles versus the Red Devils and Kankanala then lost just two games in her win at second singles. On Sunday, she and junior Kaitlin Pfisterer won 8-6 at second doubles and she again lost just two games in her win at third singles versus the Bears.
Kankanala is 7-1 in singles and 7-0 in doubles so far this season. Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 12 as JHU hosts Washington College. The CC match is slated to start at 12:00 pm.
