Women's Tennis Downed by Gettysburg, 6-3 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, April 3, 2001 HOPKINS WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO GETTYSBURG, 6-3 BALTIMORE - JHU junior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while freshman Cara Loeys (Oxshott, England/American Comm. School) earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Jays fell to Gettysburg, 6-3, in Centennial Conference women's tennis action on Monday afternoon at the Gettysburg Tennis Courts. Hopkins goes to 2-6 overall while the Bullets remain undefeated at 6-0. JHU's tandem of juniors Augusta Whitney (Boulder, CO/Boulder) and Sarah Zalewski (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) also won 8-5 at #2 doubles. Petersen and freshman Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Gbg. Central Catholic) took their opponents to a tiebreak at No. 1 singles, but just lost out on the victory in a 9-8(8-6) decision.
