LANCASTER, PA - Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) claimed the singles title at the 2007 Centennial Conference Fall Invitational on Sunday. She has now won nine straight matches and is 11-3 on the season. Sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) advanced to the quarterfinals of the invitational.
Matava and Berlinghof both earned byes in the first round. In the second, Matava defeated Katherine Wettick of Haverford 6-2, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, she won 6-2, 6-0 over Franklin & Marshall's Erica Wood. Matava then defeated Allison Daciek of Washington 6-4, 6-2 in the semis and Carly Rotfeld of Muhlenberg 6-4, 6-0 in the championship match.
Berlinghof defeated Marie Sager of Bryn Mawr 6-0, 6-0 in the second round. In the quarterfinals, she lost 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 to Rotfeld. Berlinghof is now 5-2 on the season.
Johns Hopkins will face off against Washington & Lee at 3:00 pm on October 20 in Fredericksburg, VA. It is the Blue Jays final match of the fall season.
