FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Three members of the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team concluded the season at the 2010 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship Friday in Fredericksburg, VA. Senior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) competed in the doubles competition with sophomore Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview). Warren also competed in the singles championship, along with freshman Nandita Krishnan (Chennai, India/Sishya School).

Warren won her first round match to earn ITA All-America honors for the first time in her career and become the first player in program history to earn All-America honors in singles. She picked up a three-set win over Siobhan Finicane of Pomona Pitzer in the first round. She won the first set, 6-1, before Finicane bounced back to take the second (6-3) and force a third and deciding set. Warren won the third, 6-2, to take the match and earn All-America honors. In her next match, she dropped a tough three-setter to Leslie Hansen of MIT. Hansen took the first set (6-1), but Warren responded with a 6-3 win the second. Hansen then took the third set (7-5) and the match.

Krishan faced of against top-seeded Liz Lewis of Chapman in the first round on Friday morning. Krishnan won a close 6-4 win in the first set, but Lewis answered with wins in the second (6-1) and third (7-6 (5)).

In doubles action, Warren and Bhamidipati lsot in straight sets to Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane of Denison. National runners-up in 2008 and semifinalists last season, Cobb and Drane defeated the Blue Jay pair, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Bhamidipati concludes her career at Hopkins as one of the msot decorated players in program history. She boasts a career singles record of 63-24 (.724), a doubles mark of 57-28 (.671) and a total record of 120-52 (.697). She ranks second in career singles wins, third in doubles wins and total wins. A 2007 All-American in doubles, Bhamidipati is a four-time First Team All-Centennial selection in singles and a three-time pick in doubles. She is also a three-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection.

 

 

Warren wraps up her second season with the Blue Jays with a career singles record of 37-19 (.661), including a 19-11 mark this season. In doubles, she went 14-14 this season and is now 25-21 in her career. A four-time First Team All-Centennial selection, her 37 career singles wins ranks seventh in program history. Krishnan wrapped up a standout rookie season for Hopkins with a 19-8 singles record and an 18-11 mark in doubles. Her 37 combined wins this season tie the school single-season record. Krishnan earned First Team All-Centennial honors in singles and second team honors in doubles.
