Johns Hopkins Blanks Gettysburg, 9-0
GETTYSBURG, PA – The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins women’s tennis team shut out host Gettysburg, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Blue Jays improve to 14-4 overall and 9-0 in the conference and can clinch the top seed in the CC Tournament with a win on Saturday. The Bullets fall to 6-11 on the season and 4-5 in the conference.
Hopkins swept the doubles and lost just three games in the process to go up 3-0 on Gettysburg. Junior Mikey Barthelmass and sophomore Sunaina Vohra beat Luara Gradiska and Ally Flood, 8-2, at first. Freshmen Mika Inadomi and Chrissy Simon won 8-1 over Gillian Minnerly and Mary Cecio at second. Senior Andrea Joseph and freshman Katie Gauch did not lose a game in their win at third over Hailey Hoffman and Jeannie Van Buren.
In singles, Vohra clinched the win for the Blue Jays as she beat Gradiska 6-3, 6-0 at first. Barthelmass dropped just one game as she beat Minnerly 6-0, 6-1 at second. Simon won 6-2, 6-1 over Emily Lutz at third and Inadomi beat Flood 6-2, 6-2 at fourth. With the match decided, the final two matches were played in eight-game pro sets. Gauch beat Hoffman, 8-0, at fifth and Joseph won 8-2 over Van Buren.
Hopkins wraps up the regular season on Saturday against Swarthmore. The Centennial Conference match is set for a 3:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
