Haverford, PA - Johns Hopkins senior Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) won two matches Saturday to advance to the men's singles semifinals at the Centennial Conference Individual Championships.

Alford, the No. 3 seed in the draw, defeated Haverford's Randolph Moon 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 and Aaron Scherb of Haverford 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals for the second straight year. Alford will face No. 2 seed Louis Blanchette of Washington College Sunday at 9 a.m. Sophomore Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) upset No. 5 seed Hans Hardisty of Gettysburg 6-1, 3-6, (8-6) in the round of 16 before falling to top-seeded Peter Taylor of Washington College 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Junior Grant Roch (Cedarburg WI/Cedarburg) fell to Blanchette 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.

In women's singles action, No. 3 seed sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) fell to No. 5 seed Shoko Nakamura of Washington College 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
 

 

Alford and Belisario, who advanced to the men's doubles final last year and were the No. 2 seed in this year's draw, were upset in the quarterfinals, 8-3, by Jeff Kraft and Cameron Parke of Muhlenberg.

Sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School), the No. 5 seed in the women's doubles draw, won due to injury over Rebecca Gotwals and Lauren Thomas of Ursinus in the round of 16 before falling to No. 2 seed Julie Chalfant and Melisa Sviatko of Dickinson, 8-1, in the quarterfinals. Junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) defeated Kaity Butler and Courtney Root of Ursinus in the first round, but fell to top-seeded Ne'ko Browder and Shoko Nakamura of Washington College, 8-3, in the round of 16.
