The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team split six singles matches and took two of three doubles matches to narrowly defeat Bryn Mawr, 5-4, Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
Freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Bertina Hu 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) topped Abby Fritz 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) cruised past Katie Schomaker 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
For Bryn Mawr, Clementine King defeated senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) 6-1, 7-6 (2) at No. 1, Vivian Bishay outlasted sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) 6-3, 4-6 (10-4) at No. 2, and Crystal Biruk topped sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6.
King and Hu shut out Petersen and Shevchik at No. 1 doubles, but Hopkins came back as Jerath and Liang won 8-6 at No. 2 and Loeys and Crowe won 8-1 at No. 3.
