The Blue Jays won the No. 3 through No. 6 singles matches and picked up one doubles point to narrowly defeat Swarthmore, 5-4, in Centennial Conference action Thursday.
Freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Megan Speare 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) topped Katherine Voll 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4. Freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) beat Sarah Fritsch 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, and sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) won by default at No. 6.
Swarthmore took No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as Anjani Reddy defeated senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) 6-2, 6-2 and Kristina Pao topped sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) 6-0, 6-0.
The Garnet Tide also won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 8-2 scores, but the Blue Jays took the No. 3 doubles as Loeys and Crowe won by default.
