Salisbury Defeats Hopkins, 8-1, In Women's Tennis April 18, 2003
Salisbury, MD - The Salisbury University women's tennis team won all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to post an 8-1 victory over Johns Hopkins Thursday night. The Sea Gulls improved to 8-6 with the win, while the Blue Jays fell to 6-7. Hopkins' only point came at No. 3 doubles, as junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) defeated Sammie Smiles and Gen Lowe 8-4. Salisbury took the other two doubles points, as Jody Cogar and Sam Coldren topped junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) and sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) 8-2 at No. 1 while Cassie Meyer and Heather Tyng edged sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) 8-4 at No. 3. Cogar defeated Jerath 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Meyer edged Liang 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 2. Coldren shut out Loeys 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Tyng defeated Leese 8-3 at No. 4. Lowe topped Crowe 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, and Smiles shut out freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar) 8-0 at No. 6.
