The Blue Jays dropped just seven singles games and won two of the three doubles points to defeat the College of Notre Dame, 8-1, in women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) defeated Courtney Hayworthe 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) topped Patty Taylor 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, and freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) cruised past Shannon Regon 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) easily defeated Cheryl Tamalavicz 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) shut out Sarah Puls 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) topped Janet Bane 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Hayworthe and Tamalavicz got the Gators' only points at No. 1 doubles, defeating Petersen and Shevchik 8-3. Jerath and Liang beat Taylor and Regon 8-1 at No. 2, while Loeys and Crowe defeated Puls and Bane 8-1 at No. 3.
