Hopkins Women's Tennis Shuts Out McDaniel, 9-0 April 17, 2003
Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team evened its overall record at 6-6 and improved to 6-3 in the Centennial Conference with a 9-0 shutout of McDaniel Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Shannon Pusey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) shut out Sharon Desperak 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) topped Danny Magid 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, while freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) bested Emily Puls 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) defeated Cara Miller 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar) posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Zelia Johns 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Loeys and Liang shut out Darcie Martwick and Desperak 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) defeated Puls and Miller 8-1 at No. 2.
