The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team took three singles matches and two doubles matches to defeat Haverford College, 5-4, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in Centennial Conference with the victory.
Freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Taleen Vartan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) needed three sets to top Huma Safdar 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. The other singles winner for Hopkins was sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont), who cruised past Astra Wallace 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Haverford took the other three singles matches, as Alyssa Kennedy defeated senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, Anya Moysten bested sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, and Kendra Metzger topped sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.
Kennedy and Moysten defeated Petersen and Shevchik 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, but Jerath and Liang topped Metzer and Vartan 9-7 at No. 2 and Loeys and Crowe defeated Safdar and Wallace 8-1 at No. 3 for Hopkins.
