Hopkins Women's Tennis Edges Haverford, 5-4 April 14, 2003
Haverford, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to post a 5-4 victory over Haverford Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 5-5 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference with the win, while the Fords fell to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in league play. Sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) edged Anjani Naidu 7-5, 7-6 (6) at No. 1 singles, while freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) defeated Lauren Perez 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 4. Freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar) was the other singles winner for Hopkins, as she topped Huma Safdar 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6. Laura Chaddock bested sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 2, Ann Cooper edged junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England, American Community School) 7-6 (3), 7-5 at No. 3, and Jen Hurford defeated junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 at No. 5 for the Fords' three singles wins. The Blue Jays earned two doubles points, as Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) defeated Cooper and Perez 8-2 at No. 2 while Crowe and Leese topped Safdar and Hurford 8-3 at No. 3.
