The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shut out Ursinus, 9-0, Monday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
Hopkins improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the league, while the Bears fell to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Junior Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and senior Cara Loeys (Surrey, England/American Community School) defeated Courtney Root and Brenda Stevens 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Priya Puri (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) and senior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) topped Emily Malinowski and Alison Tinguely 8-2 at No. 2. Freshman Meghan Hasenauer (Weston, CT/Greens Farms Academy) and sophomore Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) remained perfect at No. 3 doubles on the season by shutting out Casey McCullough and Rebecca Gotwals 8-0 at No. 3.
Liang posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Root at No. 1 singles, while freshman Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) won 8-0 by default over Stevens at No. 2. Puri knocked off McCullough 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, while Loeys shut out Malinowski 8-0 in a pro set at No. 4. Hasenauer defeated Tinguely 8-1 in a pro set at No. 5, while Crowe shut out Sarah Jarvis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Blue Jays travel to Dickinson Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Red Devils.
