JHU Women's Tennis Squeaks Past Muhlenberg, 5-4 April 8, 2002
Baltimore, MD - The Blue Jays won the No. 3 through No. 6 singles matches to defeat Muhlenberg, 5-4, in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon. Hopkins improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference while the Mules fell for the first time this spring, dropping to 6-1, 4-1. Freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) and sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) each picked up 6-1, 6-0 wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. In other singles action, sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) came back from a set down to defeat Muhlenberg's Sarah Niebler 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 4 and freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) topped Megan Schreiber 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5. Muhlenberg took the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as Gena Ross defeated senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) 6-2, 6-1 while Mackenzie Parke bested sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) 6-1, 6-3. The Mules also won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches before Loeys and Crowe defeated Neibler and Schreiber 8-6 at the No. 3.
