Box Score

PITTSBURGH, PA - The #19 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 7-2 at #8 Carnegie Mellon on Sunday. The Blue Jays, who are off to the best start in school history, are now 9-1 on the season while the Tartans improve to 13-6.

The Tartans won all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) had their eight-match win streak broken in an 8-2 loss at first to Amy Staloch and Jennifer Chui. At second, sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) lost 8-4 to Kelly Hart and Ashley Herrick. And at third, junior Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) and freshman Julia Guarino (Bradenton, FL/Saint Stephen's Episcopal) lost 8-2 to Alisa Liebowitz and Danielle Rosenfeld.

The Blue Jays two points in the match came at second and fourth singles. Bhamidipati won in straight sets at second, beating Chui for her 35th career win. That ties her for fourth in program history in career singles wins. Elamir then dropped just two games to win her 10th straight at fourth, beating Liebowitz.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 8 with a 4:00 pm Centennial Conference match against Washington College. The Blue Jays have won the last two meetings with the Shorewomen, including last year's Centennial Conference Semifinals.
