Four Blue Jays won singles matches to lead the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Dickinson Wednesday afternoon. Hopkins improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference, while Dickinson fell to 4-5.
Senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) defeated Melissa Sviatko 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the No. 1 singles, while sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) topped Jess Ward 6-2, 6-3. Other singles winners for the Blue Jays were freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton), who scored an easy 6-1, 6-0 decision over Tania Leach, and sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. DuPont), who knocked off Taylor Sullivan 6-3, 6-2.
Hopkins also won two of the three doubles matches, as Peterson and sophomore Lauren Shevchik (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central) won 8-3 at No. 1 while Loeys and Crowe won 8-4 at No. 3.
Hopkins will play its home opener Thursday when the Blue Jays host Swarthmore at 3:30 p.m.
