Hopkins Women's Tennis Falls To Shorewomen, 6-3 March 31, 2003
Baltimore, MD - Washington College won four singles matches and two doubles matches to defeat Johns Hopkins, 6-3, in women's tennis action Thursday afternoon. The Shorewomen improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Blue Jays fell to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) remained undefeated on the season in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Linda Hooks at No. 4, while junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) defeated Christina Vouros 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Neiko Browder topped sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Shoko Nakamura defeated sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 for Washington. Devon Hufnal defeated junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Samantha Halpin posted a 3-6, 7-5 (4) victory over freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/Lamar) at No. 6. The Shorewomen took two doubles points, as Browder and Nakamuara defeated Loeys and Liang 8-1 at No. 1 while Hufnal and Halpin topped Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) 9-8 at No. 2.
