Hopkins Knocks off Washington College, 6-3 in Women's Tennis March 29, 2005
BALTIMORE, MD -- Vandna Jerath picked up a straight set victory at second singles and teamed with Stephanie Carr to win in doubles to help lead the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over visiting Washington College Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Blue Jays improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Shorewomen slip to 5-4, 2-1.
Jerath defeated Blake Lesser by scores of 6-4 and 6-2 in singles action and teamed with Carr to knock off Lyndsey Beidle and Ryoko Sawada 8-3 at third doubles.
In addition to Jerath's win at second singles, the Blue Jays swept the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches. Meghan Hasenauer defeated Samantha Halpin 6-1, 6-2 in the number four spot, while Mary Gorski cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sawada in the number five spot. Jill Seidman rounded out JHU's sweep in the lower half of the singles draw with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Erika Kayukawa in the six spot.
