JHU Women's Tennis Team Shuts Out Ursinus, 9-0 March 24, 2003
Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its second straight match by defeating Ursinus, 9-0, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with the victory. Sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Courtney Root 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) remained perfect on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kaity Butler at No. 2. Junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) topped Lauren Thomas 6-1, 6-0 at No 3 singles, while junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Casey McCullogh at No. 4. Freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) defeated Rebecca Gotwals 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, and freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar) topped Laura Dougherty 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6. Loeys and Liang defeated Root and Butler 8-6 at No.1 doubles, while Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) topped Thomas and Dougherty 8-3 at No. 2. Crowe and Leese posted an 8-2 victory over Gotwals and McCullogh at No. 3 doubles. Hopkins travels to Franklin & Marshall Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Diplomats. Johns Hopkins def.
