The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its 2004 spring opener by defeating Haverford, 7-2, Saturday afternoon.
Senior Cara Loeys (Surrey, England/American Community School) and junior Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) defeated Laura Chaddock and Priya Amar 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) and freshman Meghan Hasenauer (Weston, CT/Greens Farms Academy) topped Anjani Naidu and Annaliese Wiederspahn 8-4 at No. 3.
Haverford won the No. 2 doubles point, as Sarah Loeffler and Allyson Scherb outlasted freshmen Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) and Priya Puri (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) 8-6.
Sophomore Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) needed three sets to defeat Amar 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Busch needed a tiebreaker to top Naidu 6-4, 4-6 (6) at No. 3. Puri also won in three sets over Loeffler 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, while Loeys topped Scherb 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Hasenauer defeated Wiederspahn 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6. Chaddock picked up the only singles point for the Fords as she topped Liang 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.
The Blue Jays travel to Washington College Tuesday at 3 p.m.
